What Is Aquaman II About?
Aquaman is a superhero, protector and king of the Lost City of Atlantis. He first appeared in More Fun Comics published by DC Comics in 1941. During the superhero-revival era known as ‘The Silver Age’ from the late 1950s into the 1960s, the character was also one of the founders of the Justice League, DC’s equivalent of the Avengers in the Marvel universe.
2018’s Aquaman was the sixth film in the DC Extended Universe and the first live-action movie to star the Atlantean-demigod hybrid, serving as an origin story. In the film, Aquaman (also known by his human name, Arthur Curry) fights to stop his half-brother, King Orm, from uniting the underwater kingdoms and attacking the surface world. After defeating the Karathen – a mythical sea monster – Aquaman claims the Trident of Atlan, reasserting his claim to be king. The film also introduced long-standing super-villain Black Mantra, who was revealed to be the son of a pirate ship Aquaman previously attacked.
Aquaman II will see the fan-favourite aquatic hero forced to protect Atlantis after an ancient power is released. It will also see the return of Black Mantra, who can be glimpsed swearing revenge in the short teaser trailer. This time, the villain will be armed with the power of the Black Trident, which is capable of unleashing malevolent forces unseen in the underwater realms.
Aquaman will team up with his former enemy and half-brother, Orm, to halt Black Mantra’s path of destruction. But the alliance will prove uneasy, and we expect a few twists and turns along the way…
