Celebrating Six Generations of the Ford Mustang with LEGO

MORE THAN A ONE TRICK PONY

Ford Mustang Day April 17 2024

The mighty Ford Mustang with its six generations of cars gets its very own holiday. It was the first pony car, introduced to the world at the New York World’s Fair in April 1964. The Mustang was created with the idea of being an affordable muscle car for the American people and with well over 400,000 sales in its first year it seemed to have achieved its goal. Now, 60 years later and with over 9 million being sold, it's proving to still be a desirable and affordable car. LEGO have paid homage to this awesome vehicle several times and we figured they were worth another look.

IT'S A THREE PONY RACE

The LEGO 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback (75884) comes with 183 pieces of joy and a minifigure Ford racing driver. This set is part of the LEGO Speed Champions range and comes with a buildable timing board so racing scenarios can be re-enacted. This may be a small set but it comprises of a removable windshield, gold wheel trims and race graphics - perfect for the budding race car driver. Keeping in the LEGO Speed Champions series we also have the LEGO 75871 Ford Mustang GT. This set has a brick count of 185 pieces and also contains a LEGO Minifigure dressed up in a blue and white Ford uniform. It's another small build but still with awesome features, one of which is the Mustang Pony logo. The LEGO 75871 vehicle looks great displayed next to models 75884 and 76920. The LEGO 76920 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Sports Car uses 344 pieces to capture the iconic grille, rear wing and headlights and also includes a female driver wearing a blue Dark Horse sweatshirt. We really think this is a fantastic trio paying homage to an American Classic.

THE TWO HORSEMEN

Driving away from LEGO Speed Champions we come across the iconic LEGO 10265 Ford Mustang. At 1,471 pieces, this recreate the best American Muscle car of the 1960s. The features of the set are incredible, including a printed grille piece, a detailed V8 engine under the hood and maybe best of all, the ability to be able to customise the vehicle by adding a supercharger to it. Last but by no means least is the LEGO Technic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (42138). This lean green, mean machine is built with 544 pieces and has pull-back action as a drag car should. This set has excellent playability but when you are done with racing you can attach the cover to the back to complete the smooth lines so it looks spectacular on display.

In order to keep your cars looking their optimum best, why not get your hands on a custom Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (42138) Display Case or the Ford Mustang (10265) Display Case.
