Latest LEGO Technic McLaren P1 Announced for August 2024

The McLaren P1 follows in the tyre tracks of the iconic McLaren F1 and is, therefore, the second vehicle in McLaren’s Ultimate Series. The P1 was first shown as a concept at the Paris Motor Show on the 20^th anniversary of F1 in 2012. Frank Stephenson styled the P1 and is renowned for his previous work with BMW, Ferrari, and Mini.

The McLaren P1's production was limited to 375, and the preorders sold out within months of going live. Customers began receiving their vehicles in October 2013, and the P1 became the first hybrid supercar in the world.

The McLaren P1 has moveable front and rear wings, which can produce a peak of 600kg in downforce when in race mode; this increases grip and driver confidence. The brake discs include a new type of ceramic carbon that can absorb 50% more energy than conventional ceramic rotors.

The P1 uses Brake Steer (McLaren-designed tech), which is now banned by Formula 1 as it gives McLaren too much advantage. This technology applies brake force to the inner rear wheel on fast corner entry, bringing the car’s nose tighter to the apex. The same wheel is then trimmed again on the exit of the corner, which pushes torque to the outer wheel and, in turn, increases traction whilst accelerating.

In homage to this iconic vehicle, LEGO has announced the release of LEGO 42172 Technic McLaren P1.
