LEGO Gringotts Wizarding Bank Collector’s Edition Preview
4803-BRICK BUILDING REPLICA COMING TO DIAGON ALLEY ON 4TH SEPTEMBER 2023
Only a few weeks ago, Harry Potter fans were treated to the reveal of the epic micro-scale Hogwarts Castle and Grounds 76419 set. Now, the similarly ambitious Gringotts Wizarding Bank – Collector’s Edition 76417 has gone live on the LEGO website, promising a spellbinding addition to Diagon Alley modular builds.
The latest detailed adult model in the Wizarding World theme is priced at $429.99 and will go on sale from 4th September 2023 (1st September for VIPs). Join us as we head over to the famous wizard bank to place a deposit…
One of the most eye-catching elements of the new model is the addition of the underground caverns below the bank. At first glance, it looks like a magical tree supporting a building on top, though on closer inspection, we see a recreation of the spiralling vault cart track first used by Harry Potter when Hagrid took him to his parent’s vault in The Philosophers Stone, complete with a running waterfall beside it. If you're wondering how many pieces the new set is, it clocks in at 4,803 bricks, making it one of the biggest Harry Potter sets to date.
The track includes a mechanism to halt the cart’s movement at each of the three vaults . One of these is the Lestrange Vault, where Bellatrix stored Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup – one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes – before Harry, Ron, and Hermione managed to destroy it during the events of The Deathly Hallows. During this key event of the Second Wizarding War, the trio managed to inadvertently release a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon into the wild.
The brick-built figure of this creature is one of the highlights of the new set, with a posable body and sweeping wings. The dragon can be fixed to the bank’s roof, providing a fantastic centrepiece to round off any creative display. It may not breathe fire like the one at Universal Studios Hollywood, but it sits equally proud on its perch!
A peek inside the bank’s interiors reveals the opulent foyer packed with goblin minifigures, including Bogrod, Griphook and Ricbert. The set also includes Harry, Ron, Bellatrix, Hermione, and a Death Eater, with 13 minifigures in total.
Details such as the goblin clerk’s desk, golden lamps and mezzanine floor really add to the style of the new Harry Potter LEGO set, while the bonus addition of a buildable Magical Menagerie shop that attaches to the main bank building adds good value for brick builders planning to include the set in their street scene dioramas.
The bank’s exterior looks stunning, with the crooked construction and bleached white stonework with dark lines recognisable from the film series. The building can be lifted from the lower cavern section so collectors can add it beside their other Diagon Alley modular shopfronts. See this in action above – we're looking forward to seeing how fans incorporate the new set into their pre-existing setups.
