LEGO Round-Up – Himeji Castle, Sonic and Disney Gift with Purchase
NEW LEGO RELEASES REVEALED FROM THREE CONTRASTING THEMES
Exciting news for fans of the prestigious LEGO Architecture theme – LEGO have today revealed a brick-built micro-scale replica of the historically-revered Himeji Castle located in the Hyōgo Prefecture of Japan, set for release on 1st August 2023. Sonic the Hedgehog fans can also look forward to a new set featuring Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot, coming out on the same date.
The LEGO Australia website has also officially revealed the latest Disney 100th Anniversary set – a special gift-with-purchase add-on featuring Mickey Mouse’s unique Disney 100 Years Celebration.
LEGO Himeji Castle – 21060
$159.99
We’re always excited to see new LEGO architectural sets hitting shelves. Over the years, we’ve seen some spectacular brick-based reproductions of famous landmarks, cities and locations come and go, along with some fantastic tabletop and wall-mounted display options for showing them off.
The real-world Himeji Castle is a castle complex built in the hirayama (flat hilltop) style, which dates to the end of the Kamakura Period and the start of the Muromachi Period. It remains a perfect example of the prototypical stone and wood Japanese feudal castle, with curved walls, a raised main keep, and a cluster of towers.
The micro-scale LEGO castle set honours the real location’s design and majestic beauty, with the asymmetric walls, turrets, walkways and external foliage cleverly recreated using LEGO elements. The four buildable cherry trees (a mix of green and pink foliage) add a neat splash of springtime colour to the set, which is perfect for displaying on a flat surface to add some travel-themed decoration to any home interior.
The new LEGO architecture set will also sit neatly alongside previous building models such as the Great Pyramid of Giza 21058 and Taj Mahal 21056.
Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot – 76993
$59.99
The latest SEGA-themed LEGO set is marketed for kids. Still, we’re willing to bet there are a few nostalgic adult collectors of LEGO who will love the chance to own the villainous Dr Eggman in a quirky giant battle suit, along with the heroic hedgehog Sonic.
Accessories include a speed sphere and launcher, along with other research station equipment.
Disney 100 Years Celebration
This gift-with-purchase add-on is currently only listed on the Australian LEGO store; however, we expect it to be confirmed elsewhere soon. Disney lovers will adore this set, which will likely become a sought-after collectable in years to come thanks to its limited run and unique 100th-anniversary design.
The model features a desk with a drawing, screen and projector, and a balloon and cake to commemorate 100 years of animated storytelling from the famous studio.
