LEGO Unboxing – Christmas Décor Set 40604

DECORATE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE WITH THESE GEOMETRIC BRICK-BUILT BAUBLES

LEGO Unboxing – Christmas Décor Set 40604

We’ve received another GWP gift from LEGO just in time for decorating our Christmas tree (once we finally buy it this weekend!) – Christmas Decor Set 40604.

In order to secure this add-on free gift, you must make a qualifying online LEGO purchase equal to or greater than €70/$70/£65 between the 1st and 14th of December. The model is only available while stocks last, so don’t wait too long if you want to add some brick-built magic to your tree this year.

Make sure you also check out our unboxing of the other Xmas gift-with-purchase we received – Wintertime Carriage Ride 40603.

Let’s hand the box over to our resident AFOL to preview what’s inside…

Christmas Decor Set – First Impressions

This gift-with-purchase promises three colourful holiday decorations, which should prove useful for this year’s festive decorations at home! The set was designed in collaboration with LEGO legend Chris McVeigh, one of the biggest AFOLs around, who was eventually employed as an official LEGO model designer in 2019.

These ornaments have a particular abstract, geometric style, which feels opposed to the traditional spherical Christmas bauble. Let’s see how they hold up (literally)…

Christmas Decor Set – Building The Model

I chose to start with the red bauble, which is the classic Christmas colour. Each ornament is held together by a central pillar that utilises elements with side studs so the four adjacent sections can be attached.

Each of the four sides of the bauble is identical across all three ornaments. So you better hope you like repetitive builds if you pick up this brick-built holiday set.

With a certain satisfaction, I attached the four side sections and completed my first bauble. All the exterior pieces must be carefully lined up to ensure symmetry.

I was starting to notice a pattern here… the second LEGO Christmas tree decoration (a rich Xmas green in colour) is constructed in the same way.

Two down and one to go!

The final bauble is the weakest of the three in colour – I would have liked it to be a darker Christmas gold rather than yellow.

And there you have it – a fairly simple build at 182 pieces. Once you have built one, you can easily construct the rest in the same way without following the instructions.

Christmas Decor Set – Final Thoughts

LEGO ornaments for the Christmas tree are always welcome. However, these were on the heavy side, leaving us to speculate how long our tree branches would hold up over the month without being weighed down. We also wonder whether the rings would have looked better in white rather than black.

We’re also not sure about the sharp, spiked elements adorning the sides. We all know that Christmas trees usually equal kids running around excitedly (probably while listening to Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree). So, if you have KFOLs in the house, you might want to be cautious of them running into one of these miniatures.

That said, the geometric style offers a modern interpretation of the classic bauble, which will appeal to fans with similar home interior stylings. The decorations can also be mixed up to create multicoloured versions, offering a fun bonus.
