Light Up Your LEGO London Telephone Box With The Briksmax Lighting Kit

As newbies to the world of light kits for LEGO, we were excited and a little nervous about applying the Briksmax kit to the LEGO Ideas 21347 Red London Telephone Box. We enjoy a challenge and learning new things, so with excitement overriding trepidation, we opened the box.

On opening the box, we are greeted with seven clearly labelled sealed bags, an instruction booklet, a user guide, and a service card. The packaging has a clean and smart aesthetic that matches the exterior of the box.

The first section to be illuminated is the lamppost. Before dismantling this, we needed to remove 17 tiles and plates from the base plate, plus the plant pot. The lights were easy to attach and looked effective when we tested them. The wire is wrapped around the post and then concealed underneath the pieces we removed initially.

Next, we remove part of the fence to begin illuminating the phone box. Having removed the booth from the base, the top section is deconstructed so that a thin strip light can be added to illuminate the interior of the telephone box.

For the next step, we need to cut the strip lights to size, to fit around the inner edge of the phone box’s top. These are straightforward to attach, and the adhesive is strong; we did find that poking them into place with fine tweezers was helpful. Once these are in place, the top is reattached, and the wires are all leading to the rear of the box.

The necessary sections can be easily removed from the back of the phone box, and the wires are tidily hidden underneath the edges of the panels. The wires are then twisted together and can be attached to the rear of the telephone box using the included sticky pads. The power pack is connected and can then be hidden behind the wall.

CONCLUSION

It was a little daunting when we opened the box and realised that all the lights were individual wires and would need to be connected. However, we are pleased to announce that a degree in electrical engineering is not required to apply these light kits! There were a hundred steps in total illustrated with photographs that were quite straightforward to follow. There are sometimes icons on the picture denoting different actions, e.g. whether the pieces are being taken apart, the section needs to be turned, or wires are being covered.

We enjoyed applying this Briksmax lighting kit to the LEGO Red London Telephone Box set and are pleased with the result. The lights give just the right amount of light, creating a cosy feel for this iconic London set.
