The Best LEGO Castle Sets Ever Released
THE AMAZING HISTORY OF LEGO CASTLE SETS
LEGO has a rich tradition of releasing epic castle and medieval-themed sets, starting with the retro LEGO castle set, Yellow Castle 375, in 1978. The original LEGO Castle theme eventually expanded to encompass a host of sub-themes, including Black Falcons, Crusaders, Forestmen, Black Knights, Wolfpack Renegades, Dragon Masters, Royal Knights, and Kingdoms Castle.
Fast-forward to the present day, and we’ve seen plenty of brick-built castles outside the original theme hit shelves, from similar medieval-style fortresses to Disney citadels and fantasy fortifications inspired by our favourite films and TV series. Castles provide the ideal toy setting for children to play out epic adventures inspired by the past, and plenty of adults love the unique design and use of LEGO elements in these stunning sets.

Lion Knight’s Castle – 10305
4,514 pieces | 22 minifigures
This epic LEGO Icons castle model was released in 2022 to commemorate some of the best castle-themed sets from the past for the LEGO 90th anniversary. Along with its breathtaking scenery, the set features many fantasy-inspired minifigure characters typical of medieval England. The intelligent design of the model allows the building to be displayed in an open configuration complete with interior rooms or closed for a compact external view layout. The cast of minifigures includes an army of knights, peasants, forest rebels (clearly inspired by Robin Hood’s Merry Men) and a wizard.
Black Knight’s Castle – 6086
525 pieces | 12 minifigures
This evil-looking castle was one of the best classic LEGO Castle sets ever produced. The red slanted roofs and yellow Tudor-style wall panels stylishly contrast the imposing black and grey bricks, and the dragon crest flag flying from the upper levels nicely rounds off the building’s look. Play features included a working drawbridge and portcullis and delightful hidden features in the form of a ghost tower, hidden entrance and underground prison cell. Minifigures incorporate four epic mounted knights, five knights to man the castle walls, and a glow-in-the-dark ghost.
As a retired set, you’ll have to track this down on resale sites such as eBay or BrickLink.
Yellow Castle – 375 / 6075
706 pieces | 14 minifigures
The iconic first-ever LEGO castle model appeared in Europe in 1979 and several years later in North America under a different set number. The legendary fortress is known for its iconic yellow bricks and a nostalgic assortment of knight minifigures. While simple by modern standards, this classic castle remains one of the holy grails of LEGO collecting and the standard that all LEGO Castle sets would follow in the years to come.
Expect to pay a small fortune for a mint condition set on resale sites such as eBay or BrickLink.
Disney Castle – 43222
4,837 pieces | 8 minifigures
This new-for-2023 update of the previous Disney Castle offers collectors the chance to own a Disney100 Collector’s Edition of the famous fantasy landmark. With many hidden film references and 100th anniversary moments to unearth, the LEGO 43222 Disney Castle pays homage to the fairy-tale design of Cinderella’s castle, with a colourful mix of gold, pink, blue and grey bricks. With nods to 14 Disney classics, including Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, and Sleeping Beauty, the castle interiors commemorate a century of motion pictures with enough details to keep eagle-eyed fans engaged for hours. Minifigures include Snow White, Prince Florian, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder.
The Disney Castle – 71040
4,000 pieces | 5 minifigures
Many collectors prefer the design of the now-retired Disney Castle 71040, which features a detailed façade with a stone bridge, gateway and clock, and pearlized towers with golden flags. The minifigures pay tribute to characters you would expect to see greeting guests at Walt Disney World Resort, such as Minnie and Mickey Mouse and Donald and Daisy Duck.
This set is now gaining value on resale sites like eBay and BrickLink.
Hogwarts Castle – 71043
6,020 pieces | 4 minifigures and 27 microfigures
If you’re a fan of LEGO microscale builds and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, this is the castle model for you. With over 6,000 pieces and numerous details from the Harry Potter books and films, this collectible LEGO set includes towers, classrooms, turrets, creatures, Hagrid’s hut, and even the Whomping Willow. It has become a staple of many a LEGO Harry Potter fans home display set-up. The minifigure scale characters include the four school founders – Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw.
Castle In The Forest – 910001
1,957 pieces | 6 minifigures
This limited-run castle set made its way to shelves through the 2021 Brick link Designer Program, which offered rejected LEGO Ideas submissions another chance to enter official production.
The castle has a distressed feel, giving the impression of a fortress lost and abandoned to the wilds. The original designer stated they were heavily inspired by the Forestmen sets from the 1990s, which can be seen reflected in the aesthetics. Interactive play features include an opening gate door, a secret escape passage accessible through a fake fireplace, and a trapdoor. Minifigures include three forestmen, a peasant, and two black falcon knights.
You can pick up this exclusive LEGO castle model on resale sites such as eBay and BrickLink.
Royal Knight’s Castle – 6090
712 pieces | 11 minifigures
This regal castle set from 1995 has a balanced colour palette of brown, grey and blue elements, with a green baseplate beneath, and was the star set from the Royal Knights subtheme. The model also includes rare LEGO pieces, such as the corner walls with windows. Minifigures include a king with a sword and crown, a mix of soldiers, a skeleton, and a glow-in-the-dark ghost.
