The Best LEGO Train Sets
BE A BRICK-BUILT TRAIN SPOTTER WITH THIS DETAILED COLLECTION
The train has been a staple of LEGO toy production since the company’s early days, with various steam and express trains produced in wooden form throughout the 1930s to the 1950s. The first fully moveable brick train was launched in 1964, and since then, the twin tracks have been busy carrying everything from iconic fantasy trains to luxury passenger travel services to haulage engines.
In today’s list, we’re counting down a few of our favourite LEGO train sets we’ve collected over the years, including a certain luxury carrier we can’t wait to build and add to our selection now it has finally been released (would you like a clue, Monsieur Poirot?).
Each model is displayed in a custom, high-quality 3mm thick iDisplayit clear acrylic display case, which can be easily stacked vertically and horizontally for a stylish collection.
Maersk Train 10219
Now discontinued by LEGO, the Maersk replicates the heavy-duty diesel cargo train that captures the spirit of North American railroading. A hybrid of similar real-world trains, this locomotive features a smart pastel colour scheme with a unique brick shade of blue. The train staff minifigures included in the set all wear dark blue boiler suits, high visibility vests and Maersk blue hard hats.

Horizon Express 10233
This now-retired LEGO Creator 3-in-1 set offers a stylish interpretation of a modern, high-speed electric passenger train decked in orange, black and white. The set includes brick-built chevron detailing, printed windscreen and door decals, and interiors on the two passenger cars.
Minifigures include a female train engineer, a male train steward, and two female and two male passengers.
Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition 76405
The red Jacobite steam train used in the Harry Potter film series is almost as iconic as the school it ferried young wizards and witch students to. The famous train has been recreated a few times in brick-built form. However, the 2022 LEGO Collectors’ Edition is miles ahead of the rest on the track for us.
With the huge range of characters included as LEGO Minifigures and the section of Platform 9¾ at Kings Cross Station, this model is designed to be displayed with pride.

Crocodile Locomotive 10277
The LEGO version of a vintage classic is accurately detailed with side rods that move with the wheels, posable pantographs, and a rich colour scheme similar to the real train. The locomotive is inspired by the Class Ce 6/8 II, first built for the Swiss Federal Railways in the early 20th century.
The two blue-uniformed train operators can also be placed inside the interior engine room and crew compartment.

Emerald Night 10194
Arguably one of the most classic and best-designed products in the LEGO train catalogue, the Emerald Night currently fetches a high resale price online. The model featured three unique minifigures (Railway Engineer, Train Conductor, and Female Train Staff Member) and was based on the LNER Class A3 Flying Scotsman, reflected in the familiar, rich racing green engine colour scheme and deluxe first-class cabin behind.

The Orient Express Train 21344
The announcement of the Orient Express caused a stir among LEGO train fans, and it’s plain to see why. This stunning model offers collectors an unparalleled version of one of the most famous trains ever operated. The oft-romanticised long-distance luxury train service featured in Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express and the route from Istanbul to Paris remains a symbol of style and sophistication.
The train is decorated with a deep blue colour scheme and features a classic steam engine to tow the carriages. Particular attention has been paid to the exterior of each carriage to ensure it matches the real-world designs from yesteryear – serial numbers, branding and international cities are inscribed on the sides to ensure authenticity. Small details such as ‘voiture-restaurant’ on the dining car and ‘voiture-lits’ on the sleeper car greatly enhance the overall detail.
The set also comes with eight LEGO Minifigures, including wealthy guests, a duchess, a train attendant, a conductor, a waiter, and a cameraman.
