BEAUTY AND THE BRAWN
LEGO Technic have recently given us a taste of what's to come from them in August 2024. Will you be digging for gold or racing for the gold? Have a look at the latest sets to be announced below.
Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar - 42173
Release date: 1st August 2024
$49.99, available for pre-order from LEGO Store
The luxurious LEGO Technic Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar pays homage to one of the fastest road-legal hypercars in the world. The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut has a 5.1-litre twin turbo V8 engine that enables it to get from 0-62mph in roughly 2.5 seconds. The top speed is alleged to be the high side of 310mph but no one has found the space or the bravery to test it… yet!
Only 125 of these supercars will ever be produced at a cost of a cool £2.3 million each. The vehicle is designed using carbon fibre and has hollow carbon wheels, to help to give this hypercar a total weight of 1,390kg. This really is a sleek-looking car and an absolute grey beauty.
FEATURES OF LEGO TECHNIC KOENIGSEGG JESKO ABSOLUT GREY HYPERCAR
The 801-piece LEGO Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Hypercar set allows you to build a moving V8 engine and the differential (which enables wheels to turn at different speeds when cornering). The steering wheel has a detachable knob that can fit inside the front of the car. The best feature is the dihedral synchro–helix door system (unique to Koenigsegg) that allows the doors to rotate 90 degrees and move outward, just like the real thing.
LEGO have done themselves proud with this Technic build. Matching the sleek lines and colours of the actual Koenigsegg can’t have been easy, and as much as many of us would love to own one, this is the best and closest we can get - we can’t wait to get this and proudly display it.
Porsche GT4 e-Performance Race Car - 42176
Release date: 1st August 2024
$169.99, available for pre-order from LEGO Store
Next up is the LEGO Technic Porsche GT4 E – Performance Race Car, a remote-controlled version of Porsche’s all electric sports car that they are using to demonstrate how sustainable customer motorsport can work. Its capabilities were first revealed to the public at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2022 where it managed to complete the 1.9 km (approx) hill climb track in 45.50 secs, placing it second overall. The two motors and twin battery packs can store a combined 60kWh of power enabling it to race for 30 minutes with no decline in performance.
FEATURES OF LEGO TECHNIC 42176 PORSCHE GT4 E - PERFORMANCE RACE CAR
The LEGO Technic 42176 Porsche GT4 E – Performance Race Car is an 834-piece build, that you can actually race after building. The vehicle comes with its own rechargeable battery and is controlled via the LEGO Technic Control + app (which is free to download). This will be the fastest car in the LEGO Technic Control + range as of August 2024, when it is released. The car can be driven forwards and backwards, the lights can be turned on and off, and the app gives live data feedback on your driving skills. LEGO Technic has done a great job of replicating the aesthetic of the real thing; the colours, and the rear spoiler - it looks great and we can’t wait to take it for a test drive.
Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator - 42175
Release date: 1st August 2024
$199.99, available for pre-order from LEGO Store
The LEGO Technic Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Electric Excavator is 2,274 pieces of heavy plant work based upon one of the toughest trucks in the construction industry. Volvo makes their FMX trucks both electric and diesel and has a driven front axle that helps provide maximum traction. They have 300mm of ground clearance and rear air suspension that are purpose-built for these truck types. These two features provide amazing comfort and assist in maximum traction too. Whether the truck is being driven on the road or off the road, you can be assured that you have the best vehicle for the job, and with the 3mm high-grade steel bumper, you will end up with fewer dents and dinks.
KEEP ON TRUCKIN'
LEGO has used the 2,274 pieces to replicate not only the Volvo FMX truck but an electric excavator and charging station too. The doors of the truck cabin open and the cabin can be tilted to display the 6-cylinder moving engine beneath. The truck has a flatbed for transporting the bright yellow electric excavator and a ramp that folds down so it can be safely driven off.
The excavator has doors that open and it also spins 360 degrees. There is a pneumatic pump that moves the scoop up and down. The toy charging station can be manoeuvred about with the scoop and chains to attach it to the excavator. The LEGO Technic 42175 Volvo FMX Truck & EC230 Excavator is a great build to introduce young minds to the world of engineering through the movements and mechanisms.
