Who Remembers The 2012 LEGO Team GB Olympics Minifigures?
LEGO OLYMPIANS
It’s that time again, time for the Olympics, just over two weeks of talented young men and women making us realise just how old and unflexible we are! It’s crazy to think that four years have passed since the last one.
We got to thinking, “Wow it’s been twelve years since the release of the LEGO Team GB CMF”, it’s a shame that LEGO have not revisited this as a theme every time the Olympics rolls around. Maybe instead of doing a figure/set for each country they could make a LEGO Olympic uniform and create LEGO Minifigures from each main event. Just a thought, anyway, a throwback to 2012, highly sought after at the time, LEGO 2012 Team GB CMF.
THE LEGO LINEUP
The 2012 LEGO Team GB CMF consisted of nine agile athletes:
- Agile Archer
- Brawny Boxer
- Flexible Gymnast
- Horseback Rider
- Judo Fighter
- Relay Runner
- Stealth Swimmer
- Tactical Tennis Player
- Wondrous Weightlifter
All of the LEGO Minifigures in this series came with a gold medal each and a printed white baseplate.
AGILE ARCHER
The Agile Archer is a cheeky-looking LEGO minifigure with a printed squinty eye headprint and a Superman-like hair curl. He has a black-gloved hand for holding his bow. The torso piece is printed with a three-point harness and a large Team GB Lion. His accessory is a black bow and arrow.
BRAWNY BOXER
The Brawny Boxer was a highly sought after LEGO Minifigure as he was the only blue boxer that had been released - the CMF Series 5 boxer was rocking in red. The Brawny Boxer came equipped with a blue headguard with the Team GB logo on the front and two bright blue boxing gloved hands. His torso printing includes a Team GB waistband and the Team GB logo on the left-hand side of his chest. There is also some muscle definition that has been printed. The leg piece has blue printed shorts with thin red and white stripes and there are wrinkles printed too.
FLEXIBLE GYMNAST
The Flexible Gymnast has a white leotard that has the Team GB logo printed on the left-hand side, and this goes onto the leg print. The blue arms for the leotard are a nice touch too. This figure comes with a balance beam that is made of two white 1x1 bricks and a tan-coloured 1x4 piece.
HORSEBACK RIDER
The female Horseback Rider has simple torso and leg printing, but it looks really effective. She has a black jacket with red accents and a blue sash with a red rosette. The sash has Team GB on it with a small logo. We find that it’s a shame that the sash isn’t printed on the back. The legs are white with black at the bottom for the boots, and some of the rosette is printed on the legs too. The rider’s helmet and hair are one mould and are soft and rubbery. The main thing to notice is the lack of a horse!
JUDO FIGHTER
The Judo Fighter is another female LEGO Minifigure in the Team GB CMF Series. She is wearing a white judogi with printed black stitching, a Team GB logo and a large black Team GB logo on the back. She is one of the only Minifigures in this series with back printing. It’s neat with this figure that the belt printing goes all the way around the torso. This lady makes a worthy opponent for the Karate Master in LEGO CMF Series 2.
RELAY RUNNER
The LEGO Relay Runner is a great-looking Minifigure equipped with a grey baton. His torso has a red and white running vest printed on it, and this has the Team GB logo on the left-hand side as well as his runner number in the centre. The number 1948 is homage to when the Olympics were last held in London.
The waistband for his shorts is printed in blue along the top of the leg piece. The shorts are blue with wrinkles printed on them and small red stripes. The leg piece also has white stripes printed on the sides, which was a rare feature for LEGO Minifigures in 2012 to have side leg prints. A nice touch is the sweat droplets printed on the headpiece that are dripping down from his forehead.
STEALTH SWIMMER
Is this Tom Daly in LEGO form? Maybe! The Stealth Swimmer's headpiece has printed swimming goggles, water droplets, and a wry smile. The torso has awesome muscular definition and more water droplets. The leg piece has tiny blue swimming trunks with red, white, and blue stripes on the right hip. There are more water droplets on the legs. The Stealth Swimmer wears a white swim hat with the Team GB logo printed on both sides.
TACTICAL TENNIS PLAYER
The Tennis Player is dressed in white with horizontal blue and white stripes by the shoulders and near the bottom of the torso piece. The collar of his buttoned-up shirt is open and red. He also has the Team GB logo on the left-hand side. The leg piece is printed with white shorts that have blue stripes vertical along the front edges.
This LEGO Minifigure has also been giving it his all, as he has sweat printed on his headpiece. The Tennis Player is equipped with a silver tennis racquet.
WONDROUS WEIGHTLIFTER
This mean machine is dressed in a primarily red and blue weightlifting suit, and the Team GB logo is printed on his left thigh. He has a weightlifter’s belt printed near the bottom of the torso piece, and muscles are bulging through the suit. The Wondrous Weightlifter has a kind of grimace face print, and he is also sweating. The blue barbell was rare in 2012 as it has previously only been seen in black with the CMF Series 2 weightlifter, and it featured in LEGO 21108 Ecto-1 in silver.
